Love the New Beatles Album!
Category: Music
Apologies for the title.
Anyway, the new album by The Beatles, called “Love” is fantastic.
And it comes from one of my other favourite things. Las Vegas!
Apparently, George Harrison remixed the original Beatles tapes so they could be used in the new Cirque du Soleil show being shown in Vegas. My wife and I were there a couple years ago and we saw one of their shows. It was great. Really like nothing I had seen before.
Anyway, as a long time Beatles listener, you would think it would be hard to make the songs sound fresh again. But this album does just that in 26 tracks that play like a soundtrack.
Excellent stuff.
You can find out more about the show here:
I belive all the remixing was done by George Martin and his son, not George Harrison.
Whoops - you are correct.
Confused myself because they do mention George Harrison on the site too.
From the site:
“Born from a personal friendship and mutual admiration between the late George Harrison and Cirque founder Guy Laliberté, LOVE brings the magic of Cirque du Soleil together with the spirit and passion behind the most beloved rock group of all time to create a vivid, intimate and powerful entertainment experience.
LOVE evokes the exuberant and irreverent spirit of The Beatles, as interpreted through the youthful, urban energy of a cast of 60 international artists. Using the master tapes at Abbey Road studios, Sir George Martin and Giles Martin have created a unique soundscape of The Beatles music for LOVE. The custom-built theatre at The Mirage features 360° seating, panoramic video projections and surround sound which will envelop the audience, who will experience The Beatles music like never before…”
My old man got it for X-mas and the first couple of times I listened to it I thought it was good but not revolutionary (being an avid Beatles fan, these things should generally be left alone).
Then a couple of days after X-mas I saw a documentary on it on the BBC showing parts of the cirque show, interviews with George and whats’isface (his son) Martin, Paul, Ringo, etc, and they told how they built this album from the old recordings, why they mixed certain songs with others, what they were thinking at the time, etc. It brought the whole album to life and is well worth a watch if you can get hold of it.
@casramsey:
I would love to see that documentary. Maybe it comes with the DVD version as a “making-of” feature? I’ll check it out! Cheers
