Oh, so that’s what HD looks like!

Category: Gaming

My new TV arrived and have to say it’s….great!

I’ve been missing out on this whole HD thing : )

Anyway, here’s a tip: If you have an Xbox 360 connected to an LCD screen, use the VGA Cable.

I tested the picture quality between a Component cable and VGA. Turns out that VGA is noticeably better.

From what I’ve heard, there’s a technical reason for this - using VGA, the Xbox can be set to the exact resolution of your TV. For example, mine is set to 1920×1080 (1080p).

If you want to pick one up, here’s a link to buy it on Game’s site

Anyway, for those interested, I’ll be posting example photos of the new TV in the next week or so.

High Def!

(Sorry, I just yell that out at random times now)

Yes indeed. Now I can see where I’m going!

So no more “accidental crashes” either : )

Nice! That’s a great TV. I’ve got a small Samsung LCD that I picked up for cheap when the 1080p models hit the shelves. I’m hoping to get a bigger 1080p model within a year or so and I’d definitely stick with Samsung.

I haven’t seen the best results with the VGA cable on my 720p/1080i set. But I’ve got the Madcatz cable as apposed to the official MS one, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

I’m pretty sure the Xbox 360 can only do 1080p via VGA and HDMI (Xbox 360 Elite only), so that would be why VGA looks noticeably better for you.

@Matt

Yeah, the 1080p option does vary between TV sets. I was following people’s experiences on the AV Forums. This Samsung did give me the 1080p option between Component and VGA. But, think the Component version is upscaled, which would explain the difference in quality.

I don’t know, my head starts to hurt after following these TV settings and options for 2 years : )

Just know it looks great!
