HALO 3: FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Category: Gaming
My first impression is, “God I’m tired.”
Stayed up to 1am playing Halo 3 last night. So that’s your first indication of how good a game it is. And an even better indication is that I’ll probably do the same again tonight!

SINGLE PLAYER
First off, without question, the single player campaign is better than Halo 2. I made that decision before the 2nd level was complete. The simple fact that you are fighting OUTSIDE for a majority of the time, makes it a better experience. The previous Halos had way too many enclosed areas in their levels. This is the big battle game I was expecting last time.

The graphics are detailed and sharp. Halo 3 is not the graphical equivalent of the best looking Xbox 360 game to date, Gears of War. But I don’t think they ever intended it to be comparable. What it does perfectly well with its graphic style, is continue the story from the previous games in a better looking world with more interaction. From the opening minutes, you look around and remember everything you originally liked about the Halo world.
MULTIPLAYER
Only had the chance to play a couple games over Live. Once again, no one does multiplayer better than Halo and Bungie. If you liked Halo 2 over Live, you’ll love Halo 3.

The surprising bit about Live is the amount of extra features. For example, you can replay any of your recent matches and then grab film clips and screenshots to share with friends. Accessing your Friends List, you can view their Shared Files. Check out your Halo 3 account on Bungie.net to see the extensive the social aspect. (All the screens in this article are from my games last night.)
And speaking of film clips, also discovered that the “Theatre” also records your Single Player games! It had stored a 32 minute film clip of the last Campaign level I completed. Once inside the film edit mode, you can move the camera to literally any position within the map. When watching a film, you are actually inside the world, moving the camera around completely detached from the action. Very surreal. Give it a try.
CONCLUSIONS
1) I need to get more sleep.
2) Ignore conclusion #1 and play more Halo 3.
