A Photo Experiment with a Radiohead Song

Category: Photography

Always looking for photography ideas, thought I would try this one; pick a song and capture a series of photos that represent the lyrics.

For my first one, I’ve used “No Surprises” by Radiohead.

Does this experiment work? I have no idea : ) But anyway, it was fun to try…

No Surprises

A heart that’s full up like a landfill,
a job that slowly kills you,
bruises that won’t heal.
You look so tired-unhappy,
bring down the government,
they don’t, they don’t speak for us.
I’ll take a quiet life,
a handshake of carbon monoxide,

No Surprises (1)

with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
Silent silence.

No Surprises (2)

This is my final fit,
my final bellyache,

No Surprises (3)

with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises please.

Such a pretty house
and such a pretty garden.

No Surprises (4)

No alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises please.

No Surprises (5)

(Silence)…I’m really digging it…the imagery of the power lines and rooftops fit what I was interpreting from the lyrics…let the image of a great walk through a wooded path…your moving at a great pace over and under bridges…but…if the image of a face casted by a curtain rod appears before me on my jaunt through the woods…then it would be time to change the image…what?

Haha…thanks.

Yeah, all this imagery stuff can get a bit over the top.

Fun experiment though. Now I just need to think about the next song… : )

Well done, I think you’ve fairly captured the dystopian view of the author the lyrics are representing.

However, my god you must have been pretty depressed after that session?!

Ha, yeah. Well, I was thinking, there’s no shortage of depressing shots in this Scottish “summertime” weather. : )
